Dropping the site

On balance, it seems as though there is little energy for keeping this site going, on or off Ning. One person very generously offered to pay the whole first year's fee - but in my view without a lot of work to build energy and communication this would not be worth it.So the site will be closing when charging comes in. However I will set up a google list which we can use for basic communication, and post details here.NickSee More

Don't think Ning is worth it but could network be moved elsewhere?

I certainly don't think Ning's charge is reasonable for what it offers. However, since the HPC and political situations are still in flux, it might be wiser to retain the network for a while if it could be moved to another (free or reasonably priced) provider.

Ning or No

I'm not sure we need this anymore, so long as the main www.allianceforcandp.org site is kept, and Janet's very useful blog.Rose WhiteleySee More

Ning or nothing ?

I do find this to be a useful site to gather the resources and info but I agree that £200 a year is above and beyond. We could consider a move to Posterous - http://posterous.com/ - it's free and for the next two weeks is offering a selection of tools to import content from sites like Ning. I personally find it much easier to use than Ning but I don't have the time to offer to execute the move across.Warm RegardsSteveSee More

I think the value of this Ning site has passed

This site was really useful when it was started. However I feel it's value has gone now so we should can it.Thanks for all the useful discussion that it encouraged.See More

A response (of sorts)

I do visit the site from time to time to hear the various arguments and attempt to ascertain where I stand in relation to them. I have found listening to the talks, attending a conference helpful to some degree. It does feel very important that some kind of 'forum' exists, or at least a space for voices that run counter to imposed assumptions. However, I have remained silent and quietly contemplative. I don't think through apathy or indifference but through the feeling that I am perhaps,…See More

Hi Nick, good point. I know that I have not used this site at all, but that's more about my not very spacious capacity to manage network activities than about interest. Because of this, I wouldn't feel inclined to contribute to a $200…

Thanks Nick - yes I have been having the same dileama with my own ning sites - is it not possible to go for the 'mini' version which only costs $2.95 per month and everyone just pay a nominal fee to keep it going? Jayne

Ning changes - is this network woth keeping?

From July 20th, Ning are ending free sites; it will cost $200 a year to keep this site going. There has been very little activity here for some months, so I wonder whether it is worth finding a way to raise this amount, or whether the site has outlived its usefulness. feedback would be appreciated!NickSee More

Hi Janet Thanks for your kind encouragement re: Blog. This year's FPC AGM was packed with members (they had to change venue to accomodate us all 170) this time as everyone is keen to find out what is going to happen. Malcolm Allen gave a ppt.…

Hello Daphne, I just read your blog post on the BPC website and was impressed. How did the debate between Janet Weisz and Malcolm Allen go? Janet
